Sandtray-Worldplay is an expressive, dynamic therapy that allows you to approach and communicate your feelings and experiences in a non-verbal, three-dimensional way. This technique provides you with a tangible method for expressing yourself that goes beyond words.
It involves the creation of a world in a tray of sand by moving and forming the sand and/or arranging images in the sand. You are encouraged to arrange the sand and images in whatever way feels right. You can talk or remain quiet as you build your world. There is no right or wrong way to play in the sand.
Sandtray Images
Sandtray Worldplay Therapy uses a variety of images, including miniature objects, people, animals, toys, and items from nature.
The Sandtray-Worldplay approach I use is based on the techniques developed and taught by Gisela Schubach DeDomenico, PhD.
The counselor does not interpret the world you create. You, as the creator, experience the meaning of the world as you immerse yourself in it and share it with the counselor who is a witness to your experience. You can look at your world from all angles, move it around, discuss it, or try new configurations. Sandtray-Worldplay allows you to look at your world in new ways, with some distance, and with new perspective.
